HILLVIEW RESIDENTIAL HOME

Hill View is a 16-bed home that opened in 1995. The home is set in a quiet village location on the outskirts of the village of Sawtry and is approximately five minutes walk from the village centre shops and public house.

We are registered to provide Residential Care for 16 older people, including older people with low/medium stages of dementia.  The home has all sixteen bedrooms ground floor, each with ensuite facilities. All rooms have a telephone line and nurse call system. The gardens are well kept, with a gardener in attendance once a week.

Hill View has its own resident cat, Fluffy, and has recently added to the ‘family’ with five chickens, who have their very own home in the enclosed gardens.

Hill View encourages prospective service users to visit as much as possible before a decision is made on whether Hill View will become their new home. Short stays are a good way to see how we deliver the services we advertise, and are often helpful in making such an important step. We encourage a temporary stay of 1 week so you can get to know staff and the home and all new placements enter on a 28-day trial period in order for them to adjust to their new surroundings. Day care and respite care is offered and encouraged.

Hillview

Hill View have comprehensive Care Plans for each resident, with input from both the resident and their families to meet their individual requirements. This covers a range of needs such as dietary, environmental, spiritual, physical, emotional, religion etc.

Hill View ensures that the care hours provided is above the care hours needed for the residents. This ensures that they are not rushed in any way and the care staff have adequate time to spend with them. Staff are always on hand to help and to have a "Chat" as many of our residents enjoy this.

We have an activities co-ordinator who organises group activities and 1 to 1 activities. Residents views and suggestions are fully sought and listened to, this helps us to provide a service containing entertainment and activities that they will enjoy and benefit from. Activities and events are advertised throughout the home, residents and their families/friends are encouraged to join in, but their wishes are respected if they decline.

Residents are able to have a phone line in their room so they are able to keep in contact with their friends and family and staff are available to  assist with writing letters if they find it difficult, we will post them too.

We provide wholesome nutritional meals, which cater for many dietary needs and choices and have been issued a four-star rating from the food standards agency. Hill View has a dedicated cook who strives to ensure that the service users enjoy their food. We can offer alternatives, and if there is something that residents would like to see something on the menu our cook will try her best to provide this. Currently we provide diets for service users with diabetes and also allergies. Previously we have provided a diet to meet the ethnic needs of a service user and also a diet to meet the needs of a service user with a nut allergy. Visitors are also welcome to have a meal with their relative / friend    .

Our current residents and their Relatives regularly tell us how pleased they are with Hill View, that staff will go that "extra mile" to ensure that they are happy and content and can really call Hill View "Home". One of our current residents 2 weeks after admission to Hill View stated, “If I had known this place was here, I would have come sooner”. Visitors always comment on how homely Hill View is, that it is light and airy with no offensive smells or odours. Relatives comment on the warm and friendly greetings they receive from staff and often joke about how they would like a room themselves.

Visiting professionals have commented on the "happy atmosphere" Hill View has, how relaxed the environment is, but yet, there is always something going on.

Wellside, our local GP surgery, is very supportive of the needs of the residents. If we have any concerns regarding their health then we are able to call the practice and a Doctor will come out as soon as they are able that same day. Residents comment on the quick medical assistance they receive if they request it, or if it is evident that they require it. Wellside surgery also allow for us to talk to the Doctors on the phone for advice if a Doctors visit is not necessary. District Nurses are also very supportive and will visit Hill View if we have any concerns regarding the well being of any Residents.

Our regulation 26 inspections reflect the good service we provide, as do our CSCI reports.
