Welcome
flags

L’Arpent Vert is situated in the very beautiful department of the Lot in south-west France, just one kilometre from the pretty little village of Marminiac, and only 4 km from Cazals, an historic market village with a supermarket, bakeries, restaurants and bars, hairdressers, a pharmacy, etc.

“What a wonderful place – only wish it could have been longer. We couldn’t have wished for a better, more comfortable place to spend our first night” – Brian

Set in its own grounds of just over one acre, L’Arpent Vert provides the ideal environment for a relaxing holiday by the pool. Self-catering is possible with the barbecue and cooking equipment as well as a fridge provided for guests.

“Thank you for a lovely stay – 2 perfect nights in a perfect part of the world
– and such warm hospitality” – Lindsay C.

Our home is on a beautiful plot of land with stunning views. At an elevation of 300m there are open views to the north, looking out across the sweeping valleys with meadows and forests of the Bouriane. To the south the land disappears into a large forest. If you are an early bird you can see the sunrise to the east as it comes up over the hills of the limestone Causses du Quercy. Then sit back with an evening drink and watch the sky become a kaleidoscope of burning colours as the sun sets in the west.

"Many thanks for a wonderful fortnight.
Hospitality like that provided here is
hard to come by." - Darcy

Please bear in mind we have three dogs and three cats – all very friendly and used to holiday-makers throwing sticks and pampering them! Seriously, we are animal-friendly but ours have never been in the B&B bedrooms in order to ensure the rooms remain free of pet allergens.

Historic pursuits

The medieval history from the 100 Years War leaves its legacy of very beautiful villages and towns. We are only a 30 minute drive from the Dordogne River with its chateaux that dominate the river line, from Carennac to Beynac and including Domme, Castelnaud and Marqueyssac. Nearby Sarlat is a stunning town which has been classed in its entirety as a site of national interest. 30 minutes to the south of us takes you to Puy L’Evêque, Mercuès and Cahors which all stand over the Lot River.
Modern warfare has also left its legacy here. Indeed it remains a living memory for the older citizens of the local villages, many of whom witnessed in some way with the Resistance fighting and the alliance with the courageous SOE agents working and hiding in French homes here. There is an interesting museum in Cahors which is dedicated to the Resistance work in the area.

The prehistoric sites are numerous, this being the first settlement for prehistoric man in Europe. You can visit caves with original paintings dating back several thousand years, as well as caves of stalactites and stalagmites of colossal proportions.

Beynac Castle

Active pursuits

The natural beauty of the rolling hills, the gorges cut out by the two rivers as they wind their way to the Atlantic Ocean, the immense forests with their walking or cycle tracks all mean that there is an unlimited source of activity for getting out and about. Take a canoe down one of the rivers, enjoy a bird’s eye view from a hot air balloon, cover ground and absorb the surroundings on bike, or set out on foot to enjoy the flora and fauna of the area. The area has an abundance of spring wildflowers and orchids. There are various lakes and rivers for fishing pursuits nearby.

There are themed parks nearby and one, “Cap Nature” where you can caper in the tree tops on suspended bridges, tightropes and zip lines for the braver, where you can swing from a height of up to 20m! There is a also

  • a monkey forest, a wildlife park, an insect museum and a wild bird sanctuary where the birds actually fly free
  • a dinosaur museum park
  • Quercyland pool park with many pools, slides and other activities
  • working farms to visit – duck, walnut, etc
  • Vineyards and wine tasting
